Ways We Give
#havingFUNdoingGOOD
The Foothills Club of Tucson is dedicated to ensure funds are raised to help assist the many children and families in need in Southern Arizona. The Foothills Club of Tucson awards numerous grants and scholarships in support of local community youth programs, programs and services that support children in need and a variety of other local community needs specifically identified by the club. Below are some of the organizations we have granted to:
The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning is a campus that inspires participants to preserve the Sonoran Desert and live more lightly on the earth, offers extended programs in earth education, provides classes and workshops to help prepare teachers, interns, and graduate students in environmental learning, and encourages doctoral students to conduct research on outdoor learning and sustainable practices.
At Flowing Wells Extension Programs, Inc., we aim to provide your children with fun and engaging before- and after-school activities that will help them to grow and develop. We hope to do so by providing a caring and safe environment that will foster successful learning and positive self-development. Likewise, we try to implement enrichment programs for adults within the community.
Make Way for Books is an early literacy nonprofit that provides proven programs, services, and resources to 30,000 young children, parents, and educators throughout southern Arizona each year. Our mission is to give all children the chance to read and succeed. We provide proven programs to ensure our youngest children discover the joy of books, develop critical emergent literacy and language skills, and start school ready. We reach young children in the critical birth to 5 years to build a foundation for all future learning. Our theory of change is that we get to every caregiver in a child’s life and ensure that, that adult understands their incredible power to impact their child’s literacy, love of learning, and success.
The Southern Arizona Children’s Advocacy Center is a safe and child-sensitive place where child victims of abuse undergo the initial steps of an investigation and begin to heal. Approximately 1000 children from throughout southern Arizona come to the Center each year. These children have suffered sexual molestation, physical assault, or extreme neglect. They tell their story of abuse to specially trained Forensic Interviewers in a comfortable setting, and they receive medical attention by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. The heart of the Southern Arizona Children’s Advocacy Center is the multidisciplinary team. The team includes representation from law enforcement, child protective services, prosecuting attorneys, medical and mental health, and education. The team combines expertise and professional knowledge for a more complete understanding of case issues and a more supportive response to the child victim and family.
